EXHIBITION BY MATO KAIĆ: “LIGHT IMAGES UNDER THE BOSNIAN SKY”

EXHIBITION BY MATO KAIĆ: “LIGHT IMAGES UNDER THE BOSNIAN SKY”

Location: Ethnographic Museum of the City of Split (Iza Vestibula 4)

Dates: 30 January – 1 April 2026

The exhibition “Mato Kaić – Light Images under the Bosnian Sky” offers an insight into the photographic oeuvre of Mato Kaić, a photography enthusiast from Livno who was active in the first half of the 20th century.

The presented photographs are organized into thematic sections encompassing landscapes and city views, scenes of people and everyday life, motifs from the Adriatic coast, and depictions of animals. Through various genres, the author documents the space and time in which he worked, with particular emphasis on the lives of ordinary people. Scenes of everyday life, despite harsh living conditions and material scarcity, radiate warmth, humanity, and optimism, while the portrayed individuals convey cheerfulness and immediacy.

Thanks to the combination of aesthetic quality and faithful representation of reality, Kaić’s body of work holds significant artistic as well as documentary value, constituting a valuable testimony to life, space, and customs of the period.

The exhibition was realized in cooperation with the Franciscan Museum and Gallery Gorica – Livno, with financial support from the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia, the City of Split, and the Franciscan Museum and Gallery Gorica – Livno.
