The Split Carnival tradition has deep roots in antiquity — masquerades, the burning of a carnival effigy, the “Krnje”, and popular festivities have been part of Split’s cultural heritage for centuries.

The year 2026 marks the centenary of the first performance of Ivo Tijardović’s famous operetta Mala Floramye, whose opening act depicts a carnival night on Split’s Riva. It is also a celebration of a century of dance, masks, colors, and community, under the motto: “A Hundred Years, a Hundred Colors.”
