About the performance: The characters struggle with their own unrealistic goals, attempting to perform circus techniques on fragile, unstable, and unsuitable equipment. They invest great amounts of energy and effort into a battle that is lost in advance. Experiment 1 is based on the idea that an idea has no predetermined form. It uses existing, tested, and “safe” performance material, while experimenting primarily with the performance format itself.

After around ten performances of the finished show, the team leaves behind the full-length performance format and opens space for a new interpretation of themes of motivation and perseverance. As a result, the same starting point generates different performer and audience experiences that overlap and develop their own ritual, a sense of togetherness in despair.

About the artist: Dora Komenda is an architect and self-taught circus artist from Split. In 2015, she graduated in architecture and at the same time discovered circus, and has since been active in both disciplines in parallel.

Since 2018, she has been working as a producer at Cirkus Kolektiv, where she also began developing her first solo creations. In 2021, she founded the architectural studio Kolektiv tri. In 2024, she tried her hand at directing for the first time with the performance Konstrukt, which was selected among the 12 finalists of the European project circusnext, considered her greatest achievement in authorship to date.

She performs her works and works in progress across Europe and continuously pursues further education in various fields, ranging from the technical aspects of circus disciplines to circus dramaturgy and other areas related to production work. Since 2021, she has been one of the founders and a board member of the Association of Contemporary Circus Artists, as well as a board member of Platforma Doma mladih since 2024.
