EXHIBITION: “RETROSPECTIVE OF WORKS BY TOMISLAV KOŠTA”

Location: Croatian Maritime Museum Split (Glagoljaška 18)

Dates: September 29 – November 23, 2025

Tomislav Košta, born in Zadar in 1974, is a prominent name on the Croatian comic scene in recent years. He studied history and art history at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zadar. During his studies, he began to engage intensively in painting, which soon became his life’s vocation. He has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Croatia and abroad, and his works have also been published in International Artist Magazine.

His artistic expression has evolved over the years, but he has remained longest within the line between impression and lyrical realism, with a particular emphasis on ambience, atmosphere, and composition. Thematically, his works include sacred motifs, landscapes, cityscapes, portraits, and sketches from everyday life.

In his forties, he turned to comics and illustration. He is the author of a number of comic albums (many with maritime themes), published by Fibra, Stripforum, and Sputnik, while his short comics are regularly featured in the Croatian Comics Yearbook and Strip Magazine of Večernji list.

An overview of most of his work in the ninth art can be found in Kvadrat magazine no. 49. He has also illustrated several book covers and the children’s picture book The Crusader Siege of Zadar. He lives and works between Zadar and Preko (island of Ugljan). A commemorative catalogue will be published alongside the exhibition. Košta occasionally ventures into sculpture as well, and for the Split exhibition he will present his work Saint Jerome.
