We are opening the new exhibition season of the Photography Gallery of Photo Club Split with an exhibition by Šime Dragičević, a long-standing honorary member of the association. The exhibition opens on Wednesday, January 28, at 7:00 PM.

Šime Dragičević’s first solo exhibition, simply titled “30 Years Later,” marks an important jubilee – thirty years of the artist’s membership in Photo Club Split. Although he has not previously held a solo exhibition at his home club, over the decades he has regularly participated in numerous group and review exhibitions, achieving several notable results.

The exhibition presents a cross-section of thirty years of photographic work, from his early analog beginnings to recent digital photographic records. Regardless of the technique used, Šime Dragičević reveals himself as a careful observer with a refined sense for atmosphere and a subtle dynamic within the composition of the frame. For example, scenes of Komiža traditions, the celebration of the Feast of St. Nicholas (St. Mikula), and the burning of a wooden boat, photographed in the mid-1990s, reveal a very restrained authorial signature that introduces a touch of lyricism and mysticism into classical documentary photography.

Through scenes from Komiža, Makarska, Baška Voda, and Split, from the open sea to the frenetic energy of the city, Šime Dragičević emerges as a chronicler of details who finds beauty in the wonder of everyday life.
