Croatian Soundscape returns to Split, a city that will this time be not only the meeting place, but also the main theme of the evening. On Tuesday, 22 September 2026 at 8 PM, Kvart Gallery, Put Trstenika 1, will host a literary evening featuring writers Marinko Koščec and Ivica Ivanišević, project author Jelena Remetin and moderator Patricija Horvat, followed by the performance Portrait of a City, dedicated to Split.

 

 

The literary evening will explore literature, the city and its spaces, focusing on Split both as a place of everyday life and as a setting for literary stories, characters and memories. The discussion will also address the ways in which literature can move beyond the pages of a book and meet audiences in the very spaces it describes and from which it emerges.

 

 

The second part of the evening will feature the performance Portrait of a City, performed by Katarina Romac and Petar Salečić, with music by Leo Hekman and Damir Šimunović. The performance's concept was created by Jelena Remetin, who, in collaboration with the artists, has brought together texts by contemporary authors and classics of Croatian literature into a unique theatrical story dedicated to Split. Through different literary voices, a portrait of Split emerges before the audience – its people, streets, characters, everyday life and atmosphere. The city thus becomes the protagonist of the performance, portrayed through different periods, perspectives and literary styles.

 

 

The programme is part of the Croatian Soundscape project, which connects literature with real-life locations through sound and geolocation. The free mobile app features more than 90 audio stories by contemporary Croatian authors in Croatian, English and Spanish, with literary content available at numerous locations in Croatia and abroad.

 

 

Following this year's journey through the Dalmatian islands, from Hvar via Brač to Šolta, Croatian Soundscape returns to Split, a city that has been one of the project's key locations from the very beginning and which now becomes its main literary stage.
