Exhibition of the Split Film Festival Archives
Location: Diocletian’s Palace Cellars
Date: September 9 – September 17, 2025
An archival exhibition in the Cellars celebrates three decades of the Split Film Festival
On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the iconic Split Film Festival, the oldest international event in Croatia dedicated to film and new media, an archival exhibition will open in the Cellars of Diocletian’s Palace. The official opening will take place on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at 12 p.m.
Until September 17, visitors will have the opportunity to view archival panels offering an overview of three decades of the festival’s history, with special emphasis on its leadership, distinguished guests from the world of audiovisual art, accompanying programs, memorable anecdotes, and the festival’s recognizable visual identity. Since its beginnings, the festival has been much more than a cultural event for Split—it has symbolized a new beginning and a creative surge after the war years. With its dedication to auteur film, it opened doors to works that changed the course of cinema and placed Split on the global cultural map.
The exhibition is also a tribute to the recently deceased longtime festival director Branko Karabatić, whose contribution and vision built the reputation that the Split Film Festival enjoys on the international stage today. At the same time, it serves as a prelude to this year’s festival edition, which will take place from September 12 to 16.
More information about this year’s festival program is available on the official website.
