This year the program is opening further toward the international scene, with guest performers from France, Serbia, and Spain. In addition to the concert program, Novi šum also includes open, free workshops led by the performers themselves.
CONCEET// Friday, June 5 // 9 PMThe closing concert of this year’s Novi Šum festival brings one of the most important and critically acclaimed bands of the contemporary European underground scene — Dame Area. The Catalan-Italian duo has performed nearly 300 concerts across Europe and the Americas, appearing at festivals such as Atonal, CTM Festival, Nuits Sonores, and Dour Festival, as well as at iconic clubs such as Berghain and Tresor. Their latest album, Toda la verdad sobre Dame Area, released by Mannequin Records, ranked among the top releases of the year according to Pitchfork and The Quietus.
Dame Area fuse industrial, EBM, post-punk, and experimental rock into a sound that owes as much to bands such as Suicide, Coil, and Einstürzende Neubauten as it does to contemporary club electronics. Their live performances are renowned for their intensity, powerful percussion, and sheer unpredictability, which is why audiences and critics alike have long singled them out as one of the most exciting acts on today’s scene.
