ISPOD BINE SOUND ART FESTIVAL 2024
Location: Youth center Split (Ulica slobode 28)
Date: November 6 - 9, 2024
The ninth ISPOD BINE, a sound art festival, presents international guest performances and new collaborations between sound artists; residencies, workshops, exhibitions, and performances.
Split’s Dom Mladih once again becomes the center of contemporary sound art with the ninth edition of the sound art festival ISPOD BINE, which will be held from November 6th to 9th. This renowned festival continues to promote innovative artistic practices, bringing together artists from around the world and offering a rich program that includes world premieres, residencies, workshops, exhibitions, and performances.
The festival kicks off on November 6th at 8 p.m. with the opening of Toni Meštrović's installation The Resonance of Sound (Amphitheater of Dom Mladih), a 14-channel spatial sound installation that will span both the small and large amphitheaters of Dom Mladih, and will be available for viewing every day until the end of the festival. The installation invites interaction from other festival participants and the audience.
On the first day of the festival at 10 p.m., Valerio Tricoli will perform For Old Times Sake in the space after which the festival is named, “Under the Stage.” Globally renowned and highly active sound artist from Sicily, Tricoli, uses the legendary analog device Nagra 4.2.
On the second day, November 7th, the festival program begins with the opening of the audiovisual installation Sudden Amplitude by Rob Mazurek, a world-renowned artist who merges experimental jazz, electronics, and visual art, calling himself an “abstractionist.” Through his long-standing interdisciplinary work in various parts of the world, Mazurek explores abstract forms through sound and image, creating complex multimedia works that transcend genre boundaries.
That same evening, on the festival’s main stage, Tinymental, a duo composed of Bojan Krhlanko and Pavle Jovanović, will perform Inner Disposition, an electroacoustic “comprovisation” that was produced last year by the organization Kontejner. Following that, there will be an experimental audiovisual performance Pitch Shifting by Grgur Savić, Sanja Star, and Richard Scott, combining live improvisation, electronics, and video art.
On Friday, November 8th, the Slovenian trio Svojat (Andrej Fon, Ivo Poderžaj, and Vid Drašler) takes the stage, bringing a fresh and unconventional sound through improvisation and experimentation with rich sonic textures. That same evening will see the premiere of the project Roj Osa meets Rob Mazurek, created during a residency as part of the ISPOD BINE festival in Split.
This year at ISPOD BINE, Roj Osa joins forces with multidisciplinary artist Rob Mazurek, creating a unique sonic adventure through their residency in Split, which will culminate in a premiere performance on November 8th.
The final day of this year’s festival, November 9th, begins with a DJ workshop led by DJs from the Belgrade collective SUTRA. In the evening, a new band from Split’s underground scene, 65Bandits (Joško Žižić, Eugen Jeličić, and Lana Beović), will debut, followed by the long-standing noise-jazz duo Brio. The festival concludes at the Kocka club with a live act by Jeronim Jandrić, a student from UMAS, and a showcase of Belgrade’s experimental electronic scene through a performance by DJs from the SUTRA collective (UBICA, Bucalo, SAUD).
In addition to the exhibitions and performances, the festival offers a “sneak peek” into the residency program from November 3rd to 8th at Beton Kino, where you can follow the development of the collaboration between the band ROJ OSA and ROB MAZUREK, participate in the DJ workshop, as well as enjoy the already familiar musical intermezzo in the lobby between performances, carefully selected for years by Igor Stangliczky, who is also the author of this year’s visual identity for the festival. This year, the festival’s lighting will be crafted by the Extraordinary Bob, who joins us as a light designer for the entire event.
