NMG@PRAKTIKA: EXHIBITION BY VID REDŽA: “THERE WHERE THE AVALANCHE STOPS”

NMG@PRAKTIKA: EXHIBITION BY VID REDŽA: “THERE WHERE THE AVALANCHE STOPS”

Location: Gallery of Club Kocka, Youth Center Split (Ulica slobode 28)

Time: April 23 – April 30, 2026, at 8:00 PM

In this exhibition, Vid Redža starts from fragmented knowledge of his Albanian heritage and, through a layered photographic approach, builds a personal visual diary between document and fiction, where identity is shaped through memories, associations, and imagined reconstructions. The central point of the work is the family migration of his grandfather from Kosovo to Croatia and the change of the family name from Rexha to Redža, which opens questions of loss, transmission, and the reinterpretation of origins. The artist explores this process through maps, family photographs, and objects, which he uses as symbols of partial and uncertain knowledge of his own background.

About the author: Vid Redža (b. 2000) is a second-year graduate student of Photography at the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb, where he also completed his undergraduate studies in Cinematography. He has exhibited in group exhibitions U procesu (Gallery f8, 2021 and 2024). His first solo exhibition Autoportret was held at Gallery Crta in Zagreb in 2024, as part of a collaboration between the Academy of Dramatic Art and the Maksimir Cultural Center. He is the recipient of the VID Foundation mentorship grant (2023) for the work There Where the Avalanche Stops, also presented at the international exhibition Echoes of Identity in The Hague in 2024. His work explores themes of identity, family, and social roles, using photography as his primary medium.

About the project: NMG – New Media Gallery is an international curatorial platform focused on research-based projects related to active participation in contemporary society, resulting in curatorial concepts, intermedia events, international new media collaborations, and the creation of new media projects. Within the platform, the NMG@PRAKTIKA program is realized. It is a cycle of solo exhibitions by young artists from Croatia and abroad at the Gallery of Klub Kocka in the Youth Center Split. This is the 14th year of the cycle, through which more than 120 young artists have been presented so far.

The exhibition is open to visitors Monday to Thursday, from 5 PM to 8 PM.
