Performers:
- Mandolin Orchestra Anđeli Svirači
The orchestra was founded as a preparatory “junior” mandolin orchestra for the Sanctus Domnio Mandolin Orchestra, with the aim of preparing young mandolinists and guitarists for technically more demanding compositions. It began its work in 1995 and has operated under the name Anđeli Svirači since 2004. In 2005, the orchestra was led by Prof. Tonka Juranović Matulić, a long-time member of the Sanctus Domnio Orchestra, who successfully directed the ensemble for eleven years and won numerous awards. In 2016, the leadership was taken over by Prof. Ivana Kenk Kalebić, the first graduate mandolinist in the Republic of Croatia and at the time a mandolin professor at the Josip Hatze Elementary and Secondary Music School. Since 2021, the orchestra has been conducted by Ana Mlačić, a member of the Sanctus Domnio Orchestra and the Libertas Quintet, a graduate student of music education and a mandolin student at the Academy of Arts in Split in the class of Ivana Kenk Kalebić.
- Mandolin Quintet UMAS
The quintet is composed of students of the newly established mandolin study program at the Academy of Arts in Split, under the mentorship of Prof. Stela Ivanišević Curić. It was founded in 2022 as a quartet and performed Vivaldi’s Concerto for Four Violins and Orchestra under the mentorship of Prof. Ivana Kenk Kalebić, accompanied by the Sanctus Domnio Orchestra. In 2023, it represented the Split Academy in cooperation between UMAS and the Academy of Arts and Culture in Osijek at the Tambura Academica event, winning first prize in the chamber ensembles category at the Mandolina Imota festival. All members of the quintet are also regular members of the GMD Sanctus Domnio.
- Mandolin Orchestra Sanctus Domnio
The orchestra was founded in 1990 in Split under the leadership of music educator Marin Katunarić. Since 1991, it has been conducted by Vladimir Lukas. The orchestra has performed numerous concerts in Croatia and abroad (Italy, the Vatican, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Spain, Montenegro, and North Macedonia) and has received many national and international awards and recognitions. Its repertoire includes numerous works originally composed for mandolin ensembles as well as arrangements of works by contemporary and classical composers.
Around the Sanctus Domnio society and orchestra, the so-called “Split Mandolin Circle” was formed, bringing together primarily Dalmatian and Split composers. In addition to many recognitions, the orchestra received the City of Split Award for Culture in 2006, and since 2015 it has held the title of “the best mandolin orchestra in Europe” from the Giacomo Sartori European Mandolinists Competition in Alì, Italy.
