Location: Ethnographic Museum of Split (Iza Vestibula 4)

“All That Glitters Is Not Gold”, an exhibition by Ida Jakšić, museum advisor at the Ethnographic Museum of Split, will present part of the museum’s collection related to textile objects decorated with srma – shiny threads, cords, and ribbons in gold or silver color.

Once made of gold, silver, and copper, and later of their alloys and imitations, these ornaments added a pronounced touch of opulence to textiles. Clothing adorned in this way has always been considered a treasure and a symbol of power and wealth, highlighting the prominent social status of its owners: clergy, nobility, and wealthier urban and rural families.
