The theme of the 20th Night of the Museums: Museums – Visible and Invisible  

In 2025, the Croatian Museum Association will organize the 20th jubilee edition of Night of the museums, the largest museum event in Croatia, continuously held since 2005. Initially involving just a few museums in Zagreb, the event has grown over the years to include around 250 museums, galleries, and other heritage institutions from Croatia and abroad.  

Night of the museums  has become an indispensable cultural event, aiming to further recognize museums as dynamic institutions that foster exploration, innovation, and creativity. By promoting heritage and its influence on contemporary trends, the event underscores the importance of museums' interaction with their environment, the creation of new audiences, and the sustainable development of museums and their communities.  

The 20th jubilee MNight of the museums will take place on January 31, 2025, from 6 PM to 1 AM, across Croatia. During this time, visitors will have the opportunity to explore all participating museums, galleries, and heritage institutions free of charge.  

This year’s theme aims to emphasize the importance of museum institutions and other heritage organizations that collect, research, preserve, and present valuable materials and cultural heritage to a broad audience—from the youngest visitors to senior citizens. The visibility of museums is especially significant today, in an era of advanced technology and digital opportunities that push the boundaries of traditional museums.  

Equally important is what happens "behind the scenes" in museums, aspects that are invisible to visitors yet crucial for their ultimate experience. For example, storage facilities, conservation-restoration departments, preparatory workshops, museum laboratories, and other essential components of museum operations often remain hidden from the public eye.
