Carmina Burana - Stefan Milenković, violin & Zadar Chamber Orchestra

A beloved guest of Split's stages, the renowned violinist celebrated for his brilliant interpretations since his childhood, Stefan Milenković, returns to Split with a new authorial program – a classic of world literature arranged for violin and strings, Carl Orff's scenic cantata Carmina Burana. Its theatrical character, derived from Orff's concept of Theatrum Mundi, where music, movement, and speech are inseparable, combined with powerful music intertwining archaic melodies with strong rhythms and rich orchestration, carries the quality of vitality and energy that makes it a masterpiece of 20th-century music.

Although existing in two versions by the composer, one for a large chorus and orchestra, and the other for a chorus, percussion, and piano, the music of Carmina Burana attracts other musicians and exists in numerous different arrangements. Stefan Milenković found in classical, theatrical, and film music composer Ana Krstajić, an ideal collaborator in realizing the idea of interpreting this work by Orff. Her arrangement of Carmina Burana for violin and strings has come to life in several concerts where Stefan Milenković collaborates with the Camerata Novi Sad ensemble.
