Traffic in Split Has New Rules
Starting in June, Split will introduce new regime of traffic within harbour and closer to the city centre, aiming to reduce gridlocks and to improve flow of large number of vehicles which now sometime create long lines and waiting. It's especially important for public transportation system, and tour buses and coaches. It's extremely important for everyone, ranging from guests to guides to agencies, learn about new situation. To avoid all misunderstands, and to improve how well everyone is informed, it's the best to publish full statement arrived from the City Council.
Starting with June 9, 2019 it will be as followed:
- All traffic within harbour will be one way;
- Main train station will be transferred to Kopilica suburb station;
- New city train from Kopilica to City Harbour will be introduced;
- Drop off and pick up zone will be established also in Kopilica, next to the train platform;
- New, unique passengers ticket for city train and city busses will be introduced, on a cost of 11 kuna, valid for one hour trip from Kopilica to the Ferry Port, and vice versa, and for all buses in the first zone of public transportation;
- New parking lot for tour buses and coaches with 48 parking spots will be opened in Kopilica, with daily cost of 120 kuna.
- Drop off and pick up for passengers of tour buses and coaches will be also possible at the present terminal close to Riva. All stops will be limited to 15 minutes, and each stop will cost 400 kuna, so for drop off and pick up total 800 kuna.
With this regime of one way traffic within city harbour boundaries City of Split aims to improve vehicles' flow, and to reduce gridlocks. Public transportation company Promet adjusted its schedule and zoning to new circumstances, expecting that number of passengers will rise from today's 15,000 passengers a day to 45,000 a day. Also, Promet will adjust its bus stops, same as it will be done at the main Bus Station and with all taxi stations.
Through establishment of the main train station in Kopilica, and by introduction of city train, lower number of vehicles is expected, especially of tour buses and coaches. Also, passengers will arrive close to the city centre in just four minutes by trains, which will depart every 20 minutes.
Drop off and pick up zone will be arranged just next to the main building of the new train station in Kopilica, along with a parking lot with 48 parking spots. Price for parking will be the same as it was till now at Dračevac parking lost, 120 kuna per day.
Bus companies and agencies which insist to arrive to city centre will still have terminal next to the Tourist Palace, with five drop off platforms. Stops will be limited to 15 minutes, on a price of 400 kuna for each operation, 800 kuna in total.
These novices in traffic regulation were introduced to make tourists' arrival to their destination as pleasant as possible, without losing time in queues, but also to relief local population of pressure created with tourists' flow.
