An exhibition of artefacts related to the Battle of Vis, from the private collection of Anđelo Miklić from Vis, will open on September 29 at 8 PM.

The exhibition primarily features objects produced in the years and decades following the battle, serving as forms of memory, remembrance, or accounts of the events of 1866. These include lithographs depicting participants in the battle and their ships, artworks, postcards, shipwreck artefacts from the battle, and cartographic representations of both the island of Vis and the battle itself. The exhibition also features personal belongings of individuals involved in the battle, including the personal document folder for letters belonging to Admiral Maximilian von Sterneck.

The exhibition will be complemented by selected objects from the collections of the Archaeological Museum in Split and the Croatian Maritime Museum Split, which have not previously been exhibited as part of the joint project People of Iron on Ships of Wood.

During the summer months, in preparation for the exhibition, photogrammetric surveys of the wreck of the Re d'Italia were carried out with the support of Split-Dalmatia County, in cooperation with Kantharos and the Manta Diving Centre. Visitors will be able to see the latest documentation of the wreck and learn about the current condition of the Italian ironclad, which sank during the battle and now lies at a depth of 120 metres.
