Cultural Summer on Mertojak is being held for the fourth consecutive year in the Mertojak city district, organized by the District Council, the Association „Humane zvijezde Splita“, and KUDŽ „Filip Dević“, with the support of the City of Split and the Split-Dalmatia County.

The program consists of music and stage performances, theatre productions, and outdoor children’s events, along with accompanying activities in the field of sports culture. All performers take part voluntarily, without remuneration, and admission to all events is free of charge.

The purpose and goal of organizing the Cultural Summer is primarily to support the students of the Mertojak Primary School and their program “Guardians of Heritage”, through which students, especially the youngest from 1st to 5th grade, learn about and promote traditional Split Chakavian dialect through songs, theatrical sketches, recitations, and folklore. They have the opportunity to present their acquired knowledge on the stage of the Mertojak amphitheatre, with the support of distinguished musicians and singers.

In addition, the program aims to bring theatre and dramatic arts closer to the residents of the district as well as to the citizens of Split outside institutional cultural venues, connecting the local community through an interactive form of cultural and social life, reminiscent of the streets and squares of our Split in the past.
