ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM EXHIBITION: "DELMATAE – Between Myth and Reality"

ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM EXHIBITION: "DELMATAE – Between Myth and Reality"

Location: Archaeological Museum in Split (Zrinsko-Frankopanska 25)

Dates: 18 June – 31 October 2026

Before the Romans. Before borders. Before Dalmatia became what we know today, there was a people whose name is still carried by the entire region. Stubborn, resilient, and fiercely independent. Sounds familiar?

The Delmatae.

For the first time, the people who gave Dalmatia its name are the subject of an exhibition that presents their complete story in one place. “DELMATAE – Between Myth and Reality” brings together more than 400 artefacts from Croatian and international museums and institutions, including objects that will be presented to the public for the very first time.

Visitors can look forward to:

  • The story of one of the longest-lasting resistances to Rome in this region
  • The secrets of the Cetina River and its role in the world of the Delmatae
  • Monumental spatial installations and reconstructions of everyday life
  • A special surprise in the museum’s lapidarium
  • A richly illustrated catalogue of more than 300 pages

The people who gave Dalmatia its name. A story we are only beginning to uncover.
