SECOND MUSEUM: Workshop – Pottery on a Hand Wheel

SECOND MUSEUM: Workshop – Pottery on a Hand Wheel

Location: Ethnographic Museum in Split (Iza Vestibula 4)

Date: April 23, 2026, at 6:00 PM

At the Ethnographic Museum in Split, as part of the SECOND MUSEUM program, a presentation of traditional hand-wheel pottery from Potravlje will be held on April 23. This unique craft has survived to this day only in the village of Potravlje near Sinj, in the municipality of Hrvace.

The presentation workshop will be led by Ivan Knezović, one of the few remaining bearers of this centuries-old tradition. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the process of making clay objects – from clay preparation and shaping on a hand wheel to drying and firing.

The program is intended for both children and adults. In the first part of the workshop, primary school children will participate, while the second part is designed for adult visitors, who will also have the opportunity to try working on a pottery wheel.

The workshop offers an opportunity to learn about the valuable intangible cultural heritage of the Dalmatian hinterland and a skill that has been passed down through generations in Potravlje.

The program is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia as part of the 2026 Program for the Protection and Preservation of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
