The exhibition “Braille Section” by artist Anabel Zanze opens at the University Gallery in Split on Wednesday, 13 May 2026 at 8:00 PM. The project explores the boundaries of visual art and opens up a space for inclusive experience. Installed across both floors of the gallery, the exhibition presents a cohesive cycle of works developed through the artist’s long-term exploration of the relationship between language and image. In this process, the letter becomes a fundamental visual element, while meaning is constructed through the encounter of the visual, tactile, and auditory.

The exhibition includes works executed in Braille, tactile prints, relief surfaces, and audio descriptions accessible via QR codes, making the artworks accessible through touch and sound as well. “Braille Section” brings together works intended for visually impaired persons, prepared for three exhibitions. The development of this cycle stems from the artist’s continuous engagement with the letter as a visual sign, which gradually transforms into a spatial and tactile structure. By introducing Braille, the works move from two-dimensional image to relief surface, opening up to touch and new modes of perception. In parallel with the visual works, the artist develops her own texts—interpretations that accompany the works and make them accessible to blind and partially sighted persons, combining informative, poetic, and personal approaches. This process arises from the need to foster inclusion and expand access to art, whereby the artwork becomes a space of encounter between different sensory experiences.

Anabel Zanze was born in 1971 in Dubrovnik. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 1996, from the Department of Graphics in the class of Prof. Ante Kuduz. Since 2004 she has lived and worked in Zagreb. She has been a member of the Croatian Association of Visual Artists (HDLU) since 1997 and of the Croatian Freelance Artists Association (HZSU) since 2010. Since 1993 she has participated in group exhibitions and since 1994 in solo exhibitions. She is the author of the books Pogled iznutra / View from Inside. Close Reading (2017) and Slovosvijet / Letterworld (2026).

The exhibition will be presented in the presence of the artist by Igor Zidić and officially opened by the Rector of the University of Split, Prof. Dr. Sc. Dragan Ljutić.
