“At the point where the circus tent has definitively dissolved into millions of personal screens lies the audiovisual work Lickety-split by young artist Ante Polić — twenty-eight minutes and forty-five seconds of looped visual fever in which the author condenses, cuts apart and reassembles the entirety of his student-period oeuvre, but also — perhaps more importantly — the collective condition of the environment in which that oeuvre emerged. Image and sound are subjected to radical acceleration: the rapid succession of frames and the density of the sound flow often erase the recognisability of the recorded subject itself; what may once have been a scene or a spoken sentence transforms into flickering colour and tonal contour without words. Lickety-split is not a work about the circus, although at first glance it may appear so. The circus merely functions as an operational model, a control panel, a starting position from which the author dissects something far more dangerous and intimate: tempo. A tempo that no longer belongs to events, but produces them; a tempo that does not respond to life, but prescribes it.” (…from the foreword by Ivor Igrec)

About the artist: Born in Ogulin on December 6, 1999, Ante Polić began his artistic exploration in the field of classical painting before gradually expanding beyond the traditional framework of the image toward new forms of visual expression. During his studies at the Academy of Applied Arts of the University of Rijeka, under the mentorship of Emilija Duparova, he focused on photography and various audiovisual media through which he explores space, sound and time. He has participated in several self-organised solo exhibitions in his hometown of Ogulin, as well as in group student exhibitions within the Theory and Practice projects in 2023 and 2024 in Rijeka.
