CONCERT // Friday, April 24 - LENHART TAPES
“One man – four Walkmans” is the most common description of Vladimir Lenhart, better known as Lenhart Tapes. His work has been described as musical mishmash, a blend of folk sensibility and a form of sonic “witchcraft.”
After ten years of performing at controversial festivals, major stages, and in cramped basements, he stepped out of the underground in 2021 and presented his music to a wider audience. The result of this transition is the vinyl album Dueti, created in collaboration with singers Mirjana Raić and Svetlana Spajić, as well as a number of guest musicians, and released by the labels Novo Doba and Pop Depresija.
If you have not yet had the chance to hear him, Lenhart Tapes is a master of cassette manipulation: Walkmans are his instruments, and the sound material consists of tapes from his extensive personal archive, which he assembles into original rhythmic loops. His expression could be described as a sophisticatedly wild “zombie genre” that combines elements of world music, noise, ethnographic music, industrial, and folk.
During performances, while hypnotic loops pulse in the background, Lenhart fully surrenders to the act of performance—bending, stretching, and shaping cassette tapes using potentiometers with the energy of a guitarist in the middle of a solo.
Although he often performs solo, he regularly collaborates with singers Tijana Stanković, Mirjana Raić, Svetlana Spajić, and Zoja Borovčanin. In recent years, the project has expanded into a collective format—the Lenhart Tapes Orchestra—where the cassette experiment gains an additional dimension through live musicians and instruments.
The day after the concert, on 25 April at 11 a.m., also at Beton kino, Lenhart will hold a workshop on his specific use of audio archaeology, Walkmans, cassette tapes, and handmade loop machines, which he uses to build his unconventional live performances.
Participation in the workshop is free of charge and no prior registration is required.
Concert tickets are available in advance via Adriaticket and at the entrance, 30 minutes before the start of the concert, at a price of 5 euros. Seating is limited.
Note: The entrance to Beton Cinema is located on the south side of the Dom mladih building, next to the Faculty of Economics.
