DANICA KATUNARIĆ’S EXHIBITION: “TENANTS”
Location: Photo Club Split (Marmontova 5)
Date: 13 July – 31 July 2026
On Monday, 13 July, at 8 PM, the Gallery of Photography of the Photo Club Split will open the exhibition “Tenants” by Danica Katunarić.
The exhibition presents a photographic series dedicated to insects, a motif that is most often associated in everyday life with discomfort, repulsion, or the desire to remove them from spaces we consider our own. Danica Katunarić approaches this relationship from a different perspective. She does not view insects as unwanted intruders, but as quiet inhabitants of small, carefully arranged scenes.
The starting point of the series was a simple domestic scene: insects found inside a chandelier, whose bodies, placed on a transparent surface under the light, created unusual shapes and shadows. From this observation developed a series of photographs in which dead insects, dry leaves, fish bones, blades of grass, food, and other found materials become part of miniature stage settings. In her works, what is small, discarded, or considered unattractive gains a new scale, space, and meaning.
Danica Katunarić was born in 2000 in Split. She graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Split, majoring in Artistic Photography, and later completed her studies in Acting at the Arts Academy in Split, where she earned a Master’s degree in Acting. She has participated in several photography exhibitions as part of “Splitska tiramola”, organized by the Split Photo Club, as well as in the group exhibition “Goghovo uvo”. For photographs presented at the exhibition “A Sea of Diversity” at the University Gallery, she won second and third place.
Her artistic practice combines photography, performance, and an interest in theatrically composed scenes, with particular attention given to detail, atmosphere, and transforming the usual perception of everyday motifs.
