SCIENCE ON THE MOVE

Location: Riva (Obala HNP)

Date: March 7, 2026, starting at 10:30 AM

Science on the Move is coming to Split for the first time! On the eve of International Women’s Day, we are transforming Split’s Riva into an open arena for public learning and scientific discussion through workshops, talks by leading women scientists, and presentations of their research.

The program features 12 talks by outstanding Croatian women scientists from a wide range of scientific disciplines. Because science is a feminine noun.

Program:

  • Ivana Brekalo, PhDNo Pain, No Gain — Even for Molecular Sponges - A talk on new methods for creating porous materials (“molecular sponges”) used in catalysis, gas storage, and sustainable chemistry.

  • Ivana Bušelić Garber, PhDSmarter Fish Farming – From Novel Feed to Genomics - A talk on how innovative fish feed and genomic analysis enable more sustainable and efficient aquaculture with reduced environmental impact.

  • Jelena Čulić Gambiroža, PhDApplying Machine Learning to Everyday Life Data - A talk on how artificial intelligence analyzes real-world data to improve smart systems, energy efficiency, and environmental quality.

  • Ana Čulić, PhDApplying Machine Learning to Everyday Life Data - A talk on the use of machine learning methods to analyze real-world data for predicting system behavior and supporting smarter decision-making.

  • Daria Ezgeta Balić, PhD Oysters – More Than a Delicacy - A talk on the ecological role of oysters in marine ecosystems and the importance of protecting and restoring their populations.

  • Andrea Gelemanović, PhD Hidden Patterns of Health and Disease - A talk on how inflammation and molecular processes linked to aging influence chronic diseases and the future of personalized medicine.

  • Mija Marinković, PhD Small Cellular Care for the Beginning of Life - A talk on the role of the placenta and cellular energy mechanisms in healthy pregnancy development and the beginning of human life.
