All Flights Lead to Split

All Flights Lead to Split

If you don't believe statistics, it's visible even with a plain look that Split became one of the capitals of Croatian tourism in the last few years. Every next season is getting longer and longer, and more successful than the previous one. Of course, these growth rates are not unlimited, there are boundaries, but let's hope that we didn't come to close to limits.

Some would say that Ultra Europe music festival is the one to be grateful. Some (me, among others) believe that world finally discovered long-neglected Split history and heritage. Some would even point to Game of Thrones filming sites tours as an important factor. There is, however, a place which is inseparably connected with Split tourism phenomena. It's local airport. If there wasn't a visitors' boom, Split Kaštela airport wouldn't become the fastest growing in the whole region or it would become the second busiest in Croatia, surpassing Dubrovnik. On the other hand, if airport didn't do its part of the job properly, maybe the boom would be downsized.

A few days ago, after question posted by one of the fans of our Facebook page Visit Split who wanted to know from where it's possible to fly over to Split, I checked Split Airport's web site. It's been a while since I did it last time, and I was kind of amazed. Right now there are more than one hundred airports on that list. Furthermore, there are few dozens of airline companies maintaining connections from all over Europe. It's hard to find a country on our continent without a flight to Split. Unfortunately, most of those connections are operating only during the season, but that season is getting longer every year, right now it goes from late March to early November. I'm sure that very soon even winter connections will get much better. After all, major airport's expanding project is on its way, and that will bring new growth possibilities.

And it's not all. Hydroplanes operated by the European Coastal Airlines recently started its flights across Adriatic, to Italian ports Ancona and Pescara. Also, this airline became the fastest connection between towns on the Croatian coast.

And now try to say that all roads don't lead to Split. At least those in the air.
