The Museum of the City of Split and the Museum of Arts and Crafts in Zagreb announce the opening of the major exhibition “The Art of the Old Masters: A Selection from the Painting, Sculpture and Prints Collections of the Museum of Arts and Crafts”, which opens on 8 October 2026 at the Old City Hall in Split.

For the first time, the exhibition will present Split audiences with masterpieces by great European masters and their workshops dating from the 14th to the 18th century!

The exhibition will feature twenty-eight selected artworks from the painting, sculpture and prints collections of the Museum of Arts and Crafts. Visitors will have the opportunity to see works by Jan Victors, Guido Reni and his workshop, Andrija Medulić Schiavone, and followers of Paolo Veneziano, as well as prints based on works by Giulio Clovio, Michelangelo Buonarroti and Peter Paul Rubens. The exhibition will also include representative Late Gothic and Baroque ecclesiastical sculptures by masters such as Hans von Judenburg and Johannes Kommersteiner.

These artworks bear witness to the cultural, political and social changes that shaped the European space over the centuries, including the territory of present-day Croatia.

A particular highlight of the exhibition in Split is the recently completed conservation and restoration work on several key works from the museum’s collection, revealing previously unknown layers and details hidden beneath their surfaces.

The exhibition is organized by the Museum of Arts and Crafts and the Museum of the City of Split.

Opening hours: 9:00 am – 8:00 pm
