ALEN MARIĆ EXHIBITION: "A VIEW FROM HOME"

Location: Photo Club Split (Marmontova 5)

Dates: June 18 – July 9, 2026, opening at 7:00 PM

The Photography Gallery of Photo Club Split will open the exhibition A View From Home by Alen Marić on Thursday, June 18, at 7:00 PM.

With the photographic series A View From Home, Alen Marić continues his exploration of family memory, heritage, recollection, and the relationships between the private and the collective, the personal and the universal. Following his series Burden, in which he addressed the experience of personal loss through his own body, the artist returns to a family narrative, this time focusing on the life of his grandfather in Sarajevo.

Starting from an intimate relationship and a private environment, the series gradually transcends the boundaries of family documentation. Home is not portrayed as a peaceful refuge, but rather as a place of security, habits, everyday rituals, and attempts to maintain control. The photographs capture elements of the grandfather’s daily life—water stored in the apartment, bread for pigeons, a radio, dishes, curtains, and objects that remain unmoved or must not be moved. These seemingly ordinary scenes preserve order, provide structure to the day, and create a sense of stability in a world that is increasingly slipping away.

Alen Marić was born in Split in 1996. He graduated in Visual Communications Design from the Arts Academy in Split. Alongside his professional work in graphic design, he is actively engaged in photography, with a particular interest in documentary and archival photography, family narratives, memory, and the relationship between personal experience and broader social contexts. His first solo photography exhibition, Burden, was presented in Split in 2020. He is the founder of the Design Hub initiative, organizer and director of the Cyan Festival of Visual Culture, and in 2025 he established Studio Onako, a multidisciplinary graphic design studio.
