SPLIT PRIDE – Announcement of the 2026 Pride Month Programme

SPLIT PRIDE – Announcement of the 2026 Pride Month Programme

Location: Various venues

Dates: 5 June – 27 June 2026

Under the slogan “My Mother Didn’t Give Birth to Me So I Could Suffer in Silence”, this year’s Split Pride marks fifteen years since the first Pride march in Split. Throughout June, citizens and visitors can take part in 18 cultural, educational, and social events, culminating in the Pride March on 27 June.

This year’s Pride Month programme once again creates space for connection, dialogue, and visibility of the LGBTIQ community in Split through art, education, activism, culture, and solidarity.

The programme opens on 5 June with a performance by Split’s drag collective Drag Kokošinjac at Klub Kocka. Throughout the month, visitors can enjoy workshops, lectures, exhibitions, film screenings, concerts, performances, quizzes, and social gatherings bringing together local and international artists, activists, and community members.

In addition to the traditional banner-making and screen-printing workshops and the LGBTIQ quiz “The Weakest Barbie”, programme highlights include a lecture on PrEP and PEP by Dr. Irena Jeličić, the exhibition “The Pussy Place” by American artist Julie E. Dyck, the monodrama “Merlinka” by Stefan Fišer, and the exhibition Coming Out Museum Encounters, organised by the Process Association from Pula and the Ethnographic Museum of Istria.

This year has also seen the emergence of several new youth-led initiatives, with young people independently organising Pride Month events—a development that particularly delights us as organisers. These include a drumming workshop, the short film programme “From Split to Palestine – Pink Resistance to Occupation, Apartheid and Genocide”, MINI-ME doll-making workshops, a screening of the film Vidokrivljenje, and more. Ahead of Pride, we will also launch our new thematic website “Nothing Under the Desk”, currently under development.

The central event of the month will be the Split Pride March, taking place on 27 June, with the procession scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM.

This year, we want to open a conversation about the kind of schools and society we want to build. The values learned at school stay with us for life. Fifteen years have passed since the first Pride in Split. The generations who sat in school classrooms back then are adults today. Yet young LGBTIQ+ people continue to face violence, rejection, and the feeling that there is no place for them in a school environment that should be safe for everyone.

Research conducted among LGBTIQ youth in Croatia shows that a significant number of students have experienced discrimination, verbal abuse, or invisibility because of their identity during their education, while many do not feel safe enough to be open about themselves in school settings.

With this year’s slogan, we want to speak about the experience of many LGBTIQ people who grew up learning that it was safer to remain silent than to be who they truly are. Pride Month is an opportunity to create space for dialogue, support, and change through culture, art, education, and community, while also celebrating fifteen years of resistance, visibility, and solidarity in Split.

Split Pride invites all citizens and visitors to join the programme throughout June and celebrate fifteen years of the struggle for equality, dignity, and freedom for LGBTIQ people.
