25 Years of The Coalition of Youth Associations (KUM) - Celebration

Location: Dom mladih Split (Ulica slobode 28)

Date: May 29–31, 2026

The Coalition of Youth Associations (KUM) was the first coalition of associations in Croatia and was officially registered in Split on May 31, 2001. The self-organized effort to secure space for the activities of the independent cultural scene was the main catalyst for bringing together Split-based associations (KUU Uzgon, Cukuni, KUU Romb, Spirit, Most, Hahari, Aktivist, the Youth Culture Movement, the Split Art Center SUCEN, and the Student Information Center). As a result, in May 2001, the Coalition of Youth Associations (KUM) was founded as the first organization of its kind in Croatia.

Over 25 years of activity, KUM’s spaces have become an essential part of Split’s cultural landscape, with an estimated total of more than half a million visits. From people attending their very first concert to artists holding their first exhibition in the gallery, KUM has built a foundation that has directly shaped the lives of generations of Split residents. Since its founding, several thousand events have taken place in KUM’s spaces. In addition to concerts by both established and emerging bands—many of whom performed in front of an audience for the first time—the program has included screenings of independent films, performances, exhibitions by young artists, themed listening sessions, book and zine reading rooms, public discussions, lectures, and graffiti jams.

Today, KUM has a somewhat different lineup, but the same passion and commitment. Its current member associations are Studio ¾, Aktivist, Mavena – 36 Her Wonders, Društvena tiskara, Kostela, KUU Romb, Permaculture Dalmatia, Noćna leptirica, Momentum, and the community radio station KLFM. Thanks to their continued dedication, even after 25 years, we still have a space that brings together community, differences, and diverse opinions into a unique place that has become a symbol of freedom, youth, and uncompromising artistic expression.

We invite everyone to join us from May 29 to 31 to celebrate KUM’s 25th anniversary. The weekend will be filled with workshops, outdoor gatherings in the sun, food and drinks, and, most importantly, great music.
