With the exhibition Klaster00, Anja Mergeduš presents the development of an archival process that organically evolves over time, emerging from the body, walking, introspection, and memory. Moving through the abandoned areas of the Zagreb railway tracks, the artist has, over the years, collected various fragments—objects, remnants of former structures, discarded or worn elements whose original purpose has disappeared or has been left to slow decay.
"The work consists of three sections, or clusters, which form a map of relationships between body and object, past and present, and the intimate and the social. The first cluster is composed of found objects arranged in a precise sequence on a table, reflecting years of collecting, the rhythm of walking, and changes in the perception of one’s relationship to material. The most numerous group includes objects directly connected to the railway and trains, as parts of their elements and structures.
The second cluster, positioned beneath the table, brings together objects whose mass, volume, and function differ from the rest. These heavier, more robust fragments—some almost sculptural in their rawness—form a counterpoint to the more delicate artifacts above them.
The third cluster is a sound installation created through the interaction of objects and an interactive circuit board that records and translates their “signals” into gestures and rhythms, transforming them into a soundscape. Here, sound is not documentation, but an extension of “walking” as a spatial trace that evokes the atmosphere of abandoned terrain, the temporality of observation, and the process of connection. The installation also raises questions about the archive and composition—how a fragment becomes part of a new whole not based on function, but on intuition, attention, experience, and research. By relocating objects from their original “habitat” into the gallery space, the artist reconstructs an imaginary topography—not geographical, but emotional and perceptual. Klaster00 mediates between layers of time as a quiet ecological and existential gesture, an attempt to understand territory through its remnants, offering the viewer the possibility to sense, through the fragility of memory, the persistence of material and the rhythm that connects them."
