THE EXHIBITION BY MARTINA CIOFFI: "THE WORLD'S FIRST THOUGHTS"
Location: Culture HUB Croatia – Prostor (Plančićeva 2)
Date: July 4 - August 7, 2026, opening at 11 AM
Italian artist Martina Cioffi presents a new spatial installation created during her residency in Split and her research into the local landscape. Starting from two plants strongly associated with the identity of the city – broom and acanthus – the artist reflects on the relationship between nature and architecture, growth and construction, the living and the permanent. Broom, whose golden flowers are associated with the ancient name of Split, refers to the landscape that existed before the city, while acanthus evokes the architectural heritage of Diocletian’s Palace, where its shape has been present in stone capitals for centuries.
In her work, Cioffi focuses attention on the flower, not the acanthus leaf, emphasizing transience, change and the possibility of transformation instead of structure and stability. This creates an imaginary, pre-architectural landscape: a condition that comes before, but also goes beyond, human construction – a place where the city returns to its origins. Between memory and imagination, the work suggests a deep connection between nature and architecture, where the act of building once again becomes a gesture of growth.
Martina Cioffi (Como, Italy, 1991) studied at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, where she graduated in 2016. Her artistic practice develops through site-specific installations and ceramic sculptures, and is based on the observation of plant life as a symbol of resilience and transformation.
Opening hours: Mon-Fri 10 am to 7 pm.
