The Split City Council adopted a Split Public Order Act, according to which inappropriate actions in public places will be subject to a fine or penalty.

Split Public Order Act defines offenses against public order and peace in the area of the city of Split, which in an impermissible manner disrupt public order and peace, the work or the order of life of the inhabitants, obstruct movement on the streets, offend morals and threaten the general safety of people and property.

According to the decision, the following will be fined 300 euros: consumption of alcohol in public areas (areas less than 100 meters from schools and kindergartens, within zone A, which includes the city area within the baroque ramparts built in the 17th century); defecating on public areas, vomiting in public areas, food and drink consumption in public spaces when it can leave dirty traces, staying in catering facilities after the end of working hours.

An amendment was accepted to fine 300 euros for climbing and sitting on monuments and memorial plaques, entering, climbing, and bathing in fountains, and offering and contracting a taxi service that is not prearranged.

A fine of 150 euros will be imposed for sleeping in public parks, squares, parking lots and other public spaces, and construction and installation work from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. to prevent noise.

As of 19 August 2026, new restrictions on the sale of alcoholic beverages and other drinks containing alcohol have come into force in the city of Split.

From 1 June to 15 September, the sale of alcoholic beverages in retail stores, kiosks and other retail outlets throughout Split is prohibited every day between 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM.

The restriction applies to retail stores, kiosks and other retail outlets, but not to hospitality establishments. Alcohol can still be ordered and consumed in restaurants, bars and other hospitality establishments.

The measure applies to retail outlets across the entire city and has been introduced to help protect public health, public order and safety, cultural heritage and the environment, particularly during the tourist season, and to reduce noise, public disturbances and littering associated with nighttime alcohol consumption.
