EXHIBITION: "THE WORLD OF FUNGI"
Location: Split Natural History Museum (Poljana kneza Trpimira 1)
Date: 5 November 2026, opening at 19:00
We invite you to step into the World of Fungi – a world of organisms that are at once hidden, fascinating and essential to life on Earth. Although we most often notice them when their fruiting bodies emerge from the soil or wood, most of their lives unfold out of sight, beneath the ground, within wood and other substrates, where they form intricate networks of mycelium and play a vital role in numerous natural processes.
This multimedia exhibition explores the diversity, structure, ecology and role of fungi in ecosystems, as well as their relationship with humans. Through photographs, illustrations, museum specimens, 3D models, interactive features and educational displays, you will discover fungi that decompose dead organic matter, species that live in symbiosis with plants, as well as those that can be parasitic, poisonous or exceptionally beneficial.
Find out how fungi contribute to nutrient cycling, soil formation and preservation, forest health and other fundamental processes essential to the functioning of terrestrial ecosystems. Discover their importance in food, medicine production, biotechnology, environmental protection and many other fields.
The exhibition is designed for all generations – from the youngest visitors, who will explore the world of fungi through play and interactive activities, to anyone wishing to take a closer look at one of nature's most fascinating and still relatively little-known worlds.
The official opening will take place on Thursday, 5 November 2026, at 19:00, while a press conference will be held on the same day at 12:00.
