The Budapest Roma Symphony Orchestra, also known as “One Hundred Gypsy Violins,” is a unique musical ensemble that has been active for more than 30 years, performing in the form of a classical symphony orchestra. The orchestra consists of 138 members and is the recipient of prestigious honors such as the Hungarian Heritage Award and the title Hungaricum. In 2000, it was also entered into the Guinness Book of Records.

Their repertoire includes classical works by composers such as Liszt, Bartók, Kodály, Hubay, Erkel, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Sarasate, and Strauss, as well as traditional Hungarian Gypsy music, folk melodies, and songs. They have performed at more than a thousand concerts, ranging from small local cultural centers to the world’s most prestigious venues. The orchestra performed at the opening of the World Expo in Lisbon before an audience of 20,000, won an award at the 45th International Music Festival in Carthage, and between 2002 and 2014 gave 55 successful performances at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris. They regularly tour France and Monaco and have also performed in Africa, the Americas, Asia, Australia, and throughout Europe.

To date, they have released 21 CDs and 5 DVDs, of which 8 have achieved platinum status and 14 gold. They also have their own junior ensemble of 25 members, whose aim is to preserve tradition by passing on knowledge to young musicians.
