Premiere Tasting in Split of Decanter’s Best in Show Wine – Marijan Plavac Plaža 2021

On Saturday, October 10, a special wine dinner with Hvar winemaker Tonči Marijan will take place at Makarun Restaurant in Split, dedicated to one of the most significant international achievements of Croatian winemaking this year.

At this year’s Decanter World Wine Awards, Marijan Plavac Plaža 2021 received 97 points and the overall Best in Show title, becoming the first Plavac Mali to receive the highest accolade at this prestigious international wine competition.

The wine will be premiered at Makarun on 10 October, before its official release on the market, as the highlight of a special evening bringing together Tonči Marijan’s wines and Dalmatian gastronomy.

Tonči Marijan will personally present his range of wines, while the culinary experience will be created by Chef Mirko Rakita and Sous Chef Franko Brečić. Combining experience and youth, they will reinterpret the treasures of traditional Dalmatian cuisine in a contemporary style worthy of this special occasion.

The specially designed courses will focus on local ingredients, traditional cooking techniques and the flavours of Dalmatia. A special place will be given to handmade Korčula makaruni, one of the signature dishes of Makarun’s cuisine. For this occasion, the makaruni will be served with filet mignon prepared à la pašticada over an open flame using holm oak wood, combining one of Dalmatia’s traditional cooking techniques with the chef’s contemporary approach.

Throughout the evening, a selection of wines from different vintages of the Marijan winery will be presented, with each wine paired with a specially designed gastronomic course. The evening will culminate with Marijan Plavac Plaža 2021, giving guests the opportunity to taste the Best in Show wine before its official market release.

Guests will also have the opportunity to pre-order a limited quantity of Marijan Plavac Plaža 2021.

The Tonči Marijan × Makarun evening will bring together Hvar winemaking, the indigenous Plavac Mali grape and Dalmatian culinary tradition in the heart of Split, presenting them through a contemporary approach and a shared respect for the terroir from which they originate.
