LOCATION: Multimedia Cultural Centre Split Gallery, Dom mladih Split

The international group exhibition “Overtourism” opens on 9 July at the MKC Gallery in Dom mladih Split (Youth Center Split) and remains on view until 8 September 2026.

Bringing together Croatian and international artists, the exhibition explores the impact of contemporary tourism on cities, local communities, and public spaces. Particular attention is given to the role of photography, social media, and digital platforms in shaping destination images and influencing travel behaviour.

Focusing on the phenomenon of photogenic and “Instagram-worthy” locations, the exhibition examines the relationship between the lived reality of local communities and the global image of destinations. Through a variety of artistic approaches, it addresses issues such as gentrification, the Disneyfication of historic centres, pressure on local infrastructure, and the transformation of urban spaces under the influence of mass tourism.

The exhibition is curated by Nick Tobier and features works by artists and collectives from Croatia and abroad.

Opening hours are from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM daily, except Sundays and public holidays.

The exhibition is organised by the Multimedia Cultural Centre Split (MKC Split).
