What is Safe in Dalmatia?
Your go-to guide for your safe stay in the Split-Dalmatia County. Central Dalmatia is a safe travel destination. This is backed not only by statistics, but also by satisfied tourists who choose this region for their safe vacation and revisit it each year.
Experience has shown us how people can unintentionally, due to relaxation, oversight or unawareness, put their safety at risk while on vacation and that is why we recommend reading the tourist information prepared by our emergency services.
Split-Dalmatia County — as safe as it is beautiful!
With its beautiful coastline, historic towns and rich culture, this region is one of the most desirable tourist destinations in Europe.
The low crime rate, the warmth and kindness of locals and the general feeling of safety among residents and visitors make the Split-Dalmatia County an ideal place for a carefree holiday. However, as with any popular tourist destination, make sure to follow standard precautions.
According to 2023 Eurostat data, Croatia stands out as the safest country in the European Union, with the lowest rate of reported crimes, violence and vandalism (Source: Government of the Republic of Croatia / HINA).
During 2024, 20.7 million overnight stays were recorded in the Split-Dalmatia County, with a minimum number of reported incidents. This confirms the commitment, professionalism and excellent organisation of local institutions in maintaining a safe environment for tourists and locals alike.
Local police, emergency services and tourist information centres are well coordinated and available in multiple languages, which further contributes to the feeling of safety of visitors.
The Civil Protection Directorate, Ministry of the Interior Affairs, has issued an informative brochure titled "Enjoy your vacation responsibly" aimed at better informing citizens and tourists about responsible behavior and appropriate responses during the summer season.

Note:
When tourist clinics of the Split-Dalmatia County Health Centre are not in operation, tourists can seek medical care from all healthcare providers contracted with the Croatian Health Insurance Fund (HZZO). These providers will have a clearly visible sign indicating they are HZZO partners at their practice.
