Le Festival du film méditerranéen
Mediterranean Film Festival confirmed itself as one of the best and most popular cultural events on Adriatic and its positive spirit during last 17 editions was recognized by more than 15.000 visitors annually. It is mostly because of the movies from the Mediterranean that have their regional or Croatian premieres and which cannot be seen in a regular cinema distribution. But the scent of old pines and rumors of the sea, sandy beach, smiley faces during the parties...it is all a bonus that visitors get during 10 days of the festival.
FMFS, featuring a program of more than 100 films, opens on June 12 at the Bačvice Summer Cinema, with screenings over the following ten days also taking place at Gripe Fortress, Zlatna vrata Cinematheque, and Đardin.
Sold out screenings are usual in Bacvice Open Air Cinema and Gripe Fortress, so no one is complaining when watching a film sitting on a stairs or a beach towel. Moreover, that casual atmosphere gives to the FMFS the Mediterranean scent. During the day, the screenings are held in a beautiful movie theater Zlatna vrata that is placed inside the walls of 1700 years old Diocletian's palace. Except to the feature films, a great attention is being dedicated to the programme of short films, hosting famous Croatian and foreign movie artists, but also to the promotion of the young authors that more and more often choose the FMFS as the place for promoting their films.
The children's programme, "Mali MeDITEran" (Child's Mediterranean) aims for children to get familiar with film art and during the FMFS there is an educational programme held "FMFS Industry" with lots of workshops and lectures for young movie makers, students and professionals.
Besides the screenings, educational part and hanging out with our movie guests, the FMFS is well known for its parties at the Bacvice Open Air Cinema that are an ideal warm-up for the upcoming summer season.
