CONTEMPORARY CIRCUS PERFORMANCE “LENTO E VIOLENTO”

CONTEMPORARY CIRCUS PERFORMANCE “LENTO E VIOLENTO”

Location: Scena 55, Croatian National Theatre in Split (Trg Gaje Bulata 1)

Time: November 11 at 8:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, November 11 at 8:00 p.m., at Scena 55 of the Croatian National Theatre Split, enjoy 50 minutes of magic, dance, and acrobatics of perception. The performance is suitable for audiences aged 10 and above and is performed in English.

“Lento e violento” combines new magic, contemporary dance, and physical theatre, creating a multilayered, enigmatic play that confuses, fascinates, and provokes a smile. Each performance is a puzzle in which the action repeats itself, while illusion and irony intertwine with human perception.

New magic (magie nouvelle) is a fresh performance genre that merges traditional illusionist techniques and an understanding of human perception with modern technologies and new dramaturgy.

“The logic of confusion, present already in the titular nomenclature that should objectively express the author’s identity, points—beyond the play of borrowed or reimagined identities—to the tension between the individual and the collective, all while evoking Artaud’s concept of the Theatre of Cruelty. The riddle of the title rightly leads us into the ambitious intellectualism that deeply permeates the performance in many aspects, yet neither the performance nor its protagonist falter in their playful inquiry and genuine sense of playfulness. The game continues to the very end, without fatigue or loss of energy.”

(Jasmina Fučkan, Plesna scena hr, June 1, 2022)
