To mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of John Coltrane, the Ethnographic Museum Split will host the Classical Croatian Quartet, featuring distinguished Croatian jazz musicians Saša Nestorović (tenor and soprano saxophone), Hrvoje Galler (piano), Saša Borovec (double bass) and Šimun Matišić (drums).

The COLTRANE100 concert will take place on Saturday, September 26, 2026, starting at 7 p.m., with free admission. The programme features a selection of Coltrane’s compositions from different periods of his career, from his early recordings to masterpieces such as “Impressions,” “Alabama” and “Pursuance” from the iconic album A Love Supreme.

In the second part of the concert, members of the Classical Croatian Quartet will be joined by students of the Josip Hatze Music School in Split, bringing experienced Croatian jazz musicians and a new generation of young musicians together on stage.

Bringing together different generations and musical experiences is one of the highlights of this concert. For the young musicians, performing alongside leading jazz instrumentalists offers an opportunity to explore Coltrane’s work through first-hand performance experience, while the concert also creates a space for sharing knowledge and fostering new musical experiences.

The COLTRANE100 concert continues the tradition of jazz programmes at the Ethnographic Museum Split, which has been running for more than a decade, bringing together jazz enthusiasts and admirers of John Coltrane’s extraordinary musical legacy.
