For four days in June, the Youth Centre Split becomes an open living room for the city's independent cultural scene. Bringing together organizations, artists, collectives, and programs that contribute to Split’s alternative and independent culture throughout the year, Platformat serves as a meeting point for creativity, collaboration, and exchange.

Alongside local participants, Platformat welcomes guests from across Croatia, including performers, lecturers, exhibitors, and visitors eager to discover everything that is happening within the Youth Centre.

The festival program features performances, workshops, exhibitions, concerts, DJ sets, talks, rooftop radio broadcasts, screen printing, board games, and many other activities spread throughout the various spaces of the Youth Centre.

The festival offers just a glimpse of the work that organizations, artists, and collectives create throughout the year—not only within Split’s independent cultural scene, but far beyond it as well.

As we await the renovation of the building, which is expected to open a new chapter for the Youth Centre, Platformat continues to demonstrate how important this space is for the city’s independent cultural scene and how many people, ideas, and activities already fill its halls.

Platformat has been held annually since 2013 and is organized by the Platformat of the Youth Centre (Platforma Doma mladih), an alliance of associations gathered around the Youth Centre building and its spaces. The Platformat acts as an umbrella advocacy organization, addressing issues of cultural democratization, participation, and active citizenship, while also advocating for better working conditions in the cultural sector and for greater transparency and accessibility of cultural workspaces.

The Platformat’s primary mission is to preserve the historical Youth Centre complex, support the community and programs that have shaped the Centre as it exists today, and collaborate with the City of Split and the Multimedia Cultural Centre on developing and implementing a participatory model for managing and using the building’s spaces.
