Giacomo Puccini: Gianni Schicchi

Students of solo singing and the Music Department of the Arts Academy in Split, under the mentorship of their teachers, vocal pedagogues Associate Professor Terezija Kusanović and Associate Professor Dr. Mario Krnić, conductor Veton Marevci, and director and actress Aneta Gotovac, will perform a musical-theatrical production of the opera "Gianni Schicchi," a brilliant comedic work by composer Giacomo Puccini, commemorating the centenary of the death of this great master of opera. The premiere performance will take place on April 16, 2024, at the Concert Hall of the Croatian House Split, starting at 8 p.m.

This project is special in many ways. Not only is it the first project through which Split commemorates the important centenary of a composer who significantly influenced opera art with his work, but it is also the first comprehensive opera project to be performed at the Croatian House in Split and the first comprehensive opera project of the Arts Academy in Split. Many collaborators have contributed to its realization: the Academy of Arts and Culture in Osijek, the Josip Hatze Music School in Split, the Croatian National Theater in Split, as well as the Department of Visual Communication Design and the Department of Acting of the Arts Academy in Split.

In a brilliant balance of youth and experience, the premiere performance will feature award-winning students and solo singing students alongside recognized Croatian soloists and vocal pedagogues: Associate Professor Dr. Berislav Jerković, solo singing teacher at the Academy of Arts and Culture in Osijek, Associate Professor Dr. Mario Krnić, and Matej Predojević Petrić. The performance will be accompanied by the excellent pianist and répétiteur Zoran Velić, under the baton of conductor Veton Marevci, the choir director of the opera choir of the Croatian National Theater in Split. It is important to note that the creative team and performers have decided to dedicate the premiere performance to the late colleague Roko Karlo Friganović, a student of the Music Department of the Arts Academy who was supposed to be part of this project.
