Location: Concert hall Croatian Home Split - Ivo Tijardović Concert Hall
Time: March 16 - 23, 2024
The opening of the exhibition "History of Fado" - Fado, Heritage of Humanity / Património da Humanidade. As part of the Friendship Week between Split and Portugal, taking place from March 16 to 23, 2024, the Croatian Home Split will host the exhibition "History of Fado," inaugurated by Her Excellency the Ambassador of Portugal to Croatia, Paula Leal da Silva.
Fado is a performance genre that intertwines music and poetry. Originating in Lisbon in the first half of the 19th century, it resulted from a multicultural blend encompassing Afro-Brazilian dances recently introduced to Europe, local musical and dance heritage, rural traditions, and cosmopolitan urban songs from the early 19th century. Initially cultivated in lower-class urban neighborhoods, Fado expanded throughout the Lisbon community, reflecting the transformation and evolution of the modern city over the past two centuries.
