EXHIBITION BY HPD MOSOR: "100 WOMEN ON THE TOP OF MOSOR - 50 YEARS SINCE THE FIRST ASCENT"

Location: Photo Club Split (Marmontova 5)

Date: March 8th - March 26th, 2024.

On the occasion of International Women's Day, on Friday, March 8th, at 7 p.m., the exhibition "100 Women on the Top of Mosor - 50 Years Since the First Ascent" will be opened at the Photography Gallery of the Photo Club Split, organized by the Mountaineering Society Mosor.

The Mountaineering Society Mosor from Split traditionally organizes the ascent of 100 women to the top of Mosor, which takes place always at the beginning of March to mark International Women's Day, specifically the first Sunday closest to March 8th. The first ascent was organized fifty years ago, on March 10, 1974, inspired by a similar ascent in Slovenia called "Sto žensk na Triglav."

It was a popular, attractive, the largest and most massive mountaineering and recreational event, widely known, primarily dedicated to women and celebrating International Women's Day. This event significantly contributed to the popularity of mountaineering and the visitation of Mount Mosor. Until 1991, 18 ascents were held. It started modestly with a small number of participants, and in later ascents, several thousand women participated. According to precise records of all ascents, 10,633 participants reached Vickov's Column, and over 15,800 participants reached the Umberto Girometta mountain hut.

Since 2014, the Mountaineering Society Mosor has actively organized this ascent, and fittingly, this year, on the fiftieth anniversary, the date coincides. This year's ascent will take place on March 10th, starting at 9:30 a.m. in front of the mountain hut on Mosor, from where the ascent to the summit will begin. Every year, an increasing number of women come and participate, reviving the "old glory" of this truly beautiful ascent.

The exhibition will showcase photographs from the archive of the Mountaineering Society Mosor and the private archive of women who participated in the ascents. The focus of the exhibition is on the earlier ascents, from the first one in 1974 to the 90s of the last century when the event was one of the largest and most massive mountaineering and recreational events in the former state.
