Tartini Quartet & Darko Brlek, clarinet

Proudly bearing the name of the great Italian composer and violinist born in Piran, the esteemed Slovenian Tartini Quartet, celebrating its fortieth year of existence this season, will perform at the Split concert alongside the prominent Slovenian clarinetist, Darko Brlek. Together, they will present the Quintet for Clarinet and String Quartet in B-flat major, Op. 34 by Carl Maria von Weber.

Following in Mozart's footsteps, Weber composed a series of works for the clarinet, establishing a foundation for the instrument's repertoire. In these compositions, he found the perfect blend of virtuosity, inventiveness, and musicality, dedicating the challenging passages and virtuosic coloraturas in the Grand Quintet, Op. 34, to his friend and clarinet virtuoso Heinrich Baermann.

The Tartini Quartet will also perform Three Compositions for Strings by Lucijan Marija Škerjanc, one of the most important Slovenian composers of the 20th century, whose compositional language remains tied to late Romanticism, expressionism, and impressionism. The program will also feature an early work by one of the most performed French composers, the String Quartet by Maurice Ravel, which brought him some of his first recognitions and earned him the title 'master of tomorrow.'
