MIRAN BLAŽEK AND JOSIP ŠURLIN: TAKING MEASURES
MKC Gallery

Gallery opening hours:From Monday to Saturday, 2 PM - 9 PM, closed on holidays.

The solo exhibition "Taking Measures" is a collaborative project by two artists: Miran Blažek from Osijek and Josip Šurlin from Split. The exhibition consists of six multimedia works (paintings, objects, conceptual sculptures) in which the authors combine various spatial constructions with color, smell, and raw materials (asphalt, coal, rubber granules). The exhibition will present three works by Miran Blažek, titled Alingment, 1/6 monokrom, and Work, as well as three works by Josip Šurlin, titled SN Tension, Pelvis, and Štakorov manifest II. The exhibition "Taking Measures" is based on relationships with space; the relationship between the subject and spatiality, in terms of shape, distance, or size, and, in a cultural sense, it explores this dialectic through the prism of freedom and fear. The authors explore the formative fields of the image as an object, comparing it with various social paradigms. Ultimately, these reflections are linked to the concept of measure: from the physical reconfiguration of imagery to the anthropological approach to the human body - a system highly susceptible to contemporary standardization of life.

PLAY "THE SUNNY SIDE"
Amphitheater

The play is set in the future, specifically in 2033 when the world is facing an apocalypse. Although everyone knows it will inevitably happen, no one knows exactly when, so there is great tension, anxiety, and uncertainty among people. Such a pre-apocalyptic atmosphere also prevails in the "most beautiful city in the world." Three young protagonists - Mihaela, Teodor, and Noa - due to (un)fortunate circumstances, meet at the amphitheater of the Youth Center, a place that has been closed for several years, with only some stage design and props left from past performances. Despite their different characters and worldviews, the protagonists are suddenly forced to confront Sartre's premise that "hell is other people" and, in the process, discover parts of themselves they had been hiding.
