EXHIBITION OF THE INSTITUTE OF OCEANOGRAPHY AND FISHERIES: “The Mysterious Life in a Drop of Sea”

Location: Photo club Split (Marmontova 5)

Dates: 8 June – 16 June 2026, opening 8 June at 8:00 PM

On the occasion of World Oceans Day, on 8 June at 8:00 PM, the exhibition “The Mysterious Life in a Drop of Sea” by the Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries opens at the Photography Gallery of Photo club Split.

The exhibition presents the fascinating microscopic world of phytoplankton—tiny organisms that, although invisible to the naked eye, form the foundation of marine ecosystems and play a crucial role in sustaining life on Earth. Through images captured using an electron microscope, visitors are invited to explore the complex forms, structures, and unexpected beauty of organisms hidden within a single drop of seawater.

The photographs were taken using a TESCAN MIRA 3 electron microscope at the Laboratory for Plankton and Shellfish Toxicity of the Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries in Split, offering a glimpse into a world otherwise inaccessible to the human eye.

The exhibition is part of the EU project Science Comes to Town, in which both the Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries and Photo club are partners.
