Date: September 28, 2023, at 8:00 PM
Concert in front of the Theater as a gift to the audience at the opening of the theater season.
The new theater season of the Croatian National Theater Split will begin on Thursday, September 28, with a Symphony concert by the Opera Orchestra of the HNK Split, conducted by maestro Ivo Lipanović, at Gaje Bulat Square starting at 8 PM. The concert, featuring beloved works by Tchaikovsky, Liszt, and Brahms, is a gift to the citizens of Split, and admission is free.
The concert opens with the emotive and passionate music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, an unmatched master of melody and orchestration. The Italian Capriccio, Op. 45, is a rich musical portrait of Italy, created during the composer's three-month stay in Rome in 1880. It is followed by Tchaikovsky's lively and charming Waltz of the Flowers from the ballet "The Nutcracker," another unforgettable work from the refined orchestration and infectious dance energy of classical ballet heritage.
The Czárdás Fantasy Hungarian Rhapsody is one of Franz Liszt's most famous compositions. A blend of virtuosity and expressiveness, it is one of the most representative expressions of Hungarian musical culture and a perennial challenge for musicians.
The final part of the concert belongs to Johannes Brahms's Hungarian Dances. The orchestra of the HNK Split will perform five of the total 21 lively and temperamental compositions inspired by Hungarian musical tradition. The joyful atmosphere and contrasting characters of these pieces make them favorites in the concert repertoire, greatly appealing to both performers and listeners.
