Aquatocene / In Search of Underwater Silence explores the phenomenon of underwater sound pollution created by humanity in the world’s seas and oceans.
The compositions of the underwater sound landscape encourage us to think about the anthropogenic sound impact on underwater habitats and the marine world, as they raise awareness and emphasize the importance of maintaining a safe sound environment for animals living in oceans, seas, lakes, and rivers.
The sound compositions represent a remix of the bioacoustics of marine life (shrimp, fish, hedgehogs, etc.), underwater acoustics, and the presence of noise generated by humans in the world’s oceans and seas. Underwater noise affects many forms of marine life that, to survive, depend on the underwater sound environment.
In the last few years, Robertina Šebjanič has taken numerous recordings using a hydrophone in various places around the world.
