In 2020, the primordial connection between people is more important than ever, which is the guiding thought of this year's Advent in Split under the slogan "Love unites us". From November 28, 2020, to January 6, 2021, Split will become a source of new hope, relying on the love that unites each person with their loved ones, even when, due to the pandemic, they are deprived of intimacy and the possibility of hugs. During the Advent period, Christmas, light, and lavish installations and decorations, along with pine trees, are present in many locations throughout the city, followed by a varied outdoor music program.
The concept of Advent in Split "Love unites us" is based on four Advent candles as symbols of pre-Christmas time. On the first week of Advent, the prophet's candle is lit and brings hope and anticipation of the celebration of Jesus' birth. With the second candle, we approach that day through the symbolism of peace and forgiveness in the Bethlehem candle. The third, the shepherd's candle, brings joy and gladness, while the last angel's candle is the largest and symbolizes love. According to the themes of each upcoming candle, Advent in Split will be imbued with messages of hope, peace, joy, and love, and this year's Advent logo has been appropriately enriched. On a few letters, there is a flame motif to associate it with the four candles.
In the context of the epidemiological situation, visitors will be best able to express their love for their loved ones at Advent events by respecting prescribed safety measures such as the obligatory wearing of protective masks or keeping a physical distance. Longtime organizers of Advent in Split, the City of Split, the Tourist Board of Split, and Spalatum D.M.C, put the health of citizens and visitors in the absolute first place by omitting famous small Christmas houses with food, drinks, and souvenirs from the entire Advent offer of the city.
Love will unite visitors on the four central locations of Advent in Split - City Promenade (Riva), Josip Juraj Strossmayer Park (Đardin), Marmontova Street, the chapel of St. Raynerius and Gaja Bulat Square - and several other smaller, but equally attractive, locations and events.
